Remembering the An-225 Mriya

The Legendary Giant of the Skies

A Tribute to the An-225 Mriya

The Magnificent Dream that Shattered in Flames

The Ukrainian Antonov An-225 Mriya is the world’s largest plane and a strategic airlift cargo aircraft. It was designed and produced by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Soviet Union in the 1980s. It made its first flight on the 21st of December 1988. It was originally developed for transportation of the Buran shuttle orbiter and components of the Energiya carrier rocket. Unfortunately, the An-225 was destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February. It was a tragic loss for the aviation history and the Ukrainian nation.

We had the privilege of accompanying Antonov Airlines on many of their extraordinary missions around the world, and we recorded many memorable moments along the way. In 2018, we created a video to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest plane and a marvel of engineering. Now that Mriya is no more, these images are priceless to us and to everyone who admired this magnificent aircraft.
